|

|
First entry deadline is over. Please, we would like to ask all competitors to chech their entry - especially class and SI number. In case if you don´t have SI number we will mark you as "rent SI". Busy week is now behind us. Mybe most inmportant information is that all our club maps for this year are re-disigned with completly new look comparing to previous editions (below you may see one part of new design for Golubinjak). It is based on animals that live in Gorski kotar region and it is filled with motives from region (for ex. on left it is highest peak of Risnjak - Veliki Risnjak). Hope you will like it.
Also we want to raise quality of maps on highest level so beside laser scaning basemaps we will print maps in Czech Republic. Yes, we have visited Žaket in Prague and got very satisfy with presented map quality - we have choose that same quality of O-Ringen maps will be presented on Croatia open 2012 - colour 5/0 IOF or CMYK+B print on the special synthetic waterproof paper (Pretex or Tyvek).
We have started aranging even more surprises but they will stay as a secret - at least for now :).

4 days till first entry deadline |
|

|
Only four days have left until first entry deadline for Croatia open 2012. For now we have recieved 420 entries from 28 countries from 5 continents and we are very happy that many orienteers will meet Gorski kotar region in July. Yesterday Daniel started with final mapping on Sungerski lug 2 map and after he´s done you may expect course lenghts. Meanwhile, if you are unsure which category to choose you can make entry for your usual category and later on, in case if you are not satisfy with lenght (too long or too short), you may change it. For children starting with orienteering we reccomand beginers class while adults may choose beetween OPEN LONG and OPEN SHORT.
Good thing is that finish arenas are determined and courses for sprint are done and waiting for testing. But first stage will be something to remember! Finish area will be in stone theater with cllifs up to 30 m high surrounding it and natural stone passages throught it. It is also the only flat and stone-free part of map :D.
If you are planing your arrival from Sweden you may contact

from Country travel for help. Also, you may chech out Ryanair low-cost flights from Stockholm to Rijeka. Rijeka airport is placed on island of Krk (stage 2), close to all stages of Croatia open so you can get easy acces to stages from it. Departure from Stockholm on 23rd July and return on 30th July.
Also, do not forget that you may use oportunity for active holiday in Croatia and book cave-visit, lake ride or sightseeing Plitvice lakes.

Official souvenir selected! |
|
Saturday, 07 April 2012 18:17 |
|

Hand made edelweiss from one piece of wood is selected to be official souvenir for this year´s Croatia open. This original souvenir is produced in traditional carpenter workshop "Perjasica" in Sunger village placed on centre of new enlarged map Sungerski lug 2. Souvenir will be available in finish arena in Sunger (last three stages) on promotional price from owner of carpenter Jedriško. Edelweiss is a flower typical for Alps but it also grows in Croatia (expecially on Risnjak mountain) so it will be a great souvenir by our opinion.
Also, hibernation time for bears is over. Today, while checking finish arena in Sungerski lug with landowners a small bear passed across meadow with speed of which Thierry Gueorgiou woudn´t be ashamed off. Luckily, Ivica´s camera was even faster.
PHOTO GALERY
Beside excelent terrain for orienteering Sungerski lug is the last habitat of flower "močvarni zmijinac" in Croatia - relict from colder age in Croatia (photo on right)! It has also several moss species - characteristic for Scandinavian region with boreal taiga-type forest and is full of small swams and lakes which are surrounded by blueberries. Also not less-important fact is that Sungerski lug is largest deposition of mire in Croatia (type of wetland with plenty of mosses, on which dead plant material deposits peat) which when is wet provides unique "soft" feeling for running and now is the right time for that due to spring rains have made terrain wet and full of water but we will have to be very lucky to have this conditions in July.
And how the terrain looks like you wonder? We will let you judge from this small sample from LIDAR (laser scaning) basemap with 1 m contour interval.. |
