We have made interview with winner of third stage of CO 2011 - Pavel Kubat, strong  Czech orienteer also junior world champion who managed to perform well in Sungerski lug wining with quite a big margin...

CO: So Pavel, is this your first time in Croatia?

PK: No, I can´t remember exactly now... Yes it´s my first time in Croatia! I was in Slovenia before but it´s my first time in Croatia open.

CO: Are you satisfy with maps and courses?

PK: I´m very satisfy with maps. First two day´s were extrodinary and course planer is very good (replies with smile).

CO: I would now like to ask you if you could share your toughts for readers of Croatia open and WorldOfO (many thanks to Jan Koback) – what did you think while running  on the course, did you made some mistakes?

PK: (describes his route)

S-1 It was quite easy control – only using path until junction, then left. Control flag was quite visible...

1-2 The second control were interesting beacouse I used compas and just run straight - but, on ¾ of the leg I didn´t know exactly where I was and I was a litlle bit confused think I lost quite a lot of time there (20-30 sec).

2-3 Quite easy following compas – I sow undergrowth and than rootstock.

3-4 I navigated on open marsh. Some small mistake before control (5 sec).

4-5 On my way to 5^th control I was running fast beacouse someone was running very close behind me (mybe 2 m) and I didn´t check my compas. I found myself on 6^th control and than run on 5^th control point...

5-6 running backwards – easy and fast

6-7 I focused on open area in velley – open areas vere quite clear and visible on map so I used it to run towards path. From than on forest was clear and no problem finding control.

7-8 I just navigated by big depresion and know that open area will stop me.

8-9 Here I made my bigest mistake of course. I din´t check my compas and I went on wrong path. I realized my mistake when I saw depresion from left side of path... I think I lost there 45 seconds.

9-10 I started towards 10th control rather slowly to get back into the race...

11-14 I was only checking my compas and run mainly straight. These controls were quite easy beacouse of short routes. On 14^th control I was loking where to go forward and than I realized I have to turn my map around* and continue with course...

14-15 I was checking my compas on the begining and than big depresion from left side of leg. I finished in swam nort of control ut it was small mistake.

15-16 I don´t remeber exactly but it was mainly compas checking.

16-17 I went straigth toward big depresion – I knew that I have to hit this big hole than it was quite tricky but ok.

17-18 I went a little bit on the left beacouse I knew that it will be difficult to find control from flat area. I didn´t  know where I was at the moment when I sow my 4th control. I turn around map, check where exactly I was and continue towards path. From than on no problems.

18-19 Depresions were quite visible and I used them for navigation.

19-21 Short routes – compas... On the way towards 21th control I decided to go on path and read map preparing myself for long leg.

21-22 There was not to many route-choises since area is very flat... I run mainly checking my compas. In front of 22nd control I stoped and check map but it was close so no mayor problems...

22-23 I saw some small knol and turn a bit to the left – also some seconds lost.

23-24 Straight following compas towards big depresion.

24-25 I made bad route choise there. I run straight but the fastest route were around depresion. I expected lower depresion. It was stupid to go straight.

25-26 Again stupid mistake. I planed to go straight but I finshed on path.

26-F I felt quite strong and I run straight. At the end I had some problems finding the flag but no mayor problems...
