Maping project for Croatia open 2013 started in September last year... We are now happy to anounce that yestarday this year´s project FINISHED! New 3.0 km² of maps will be used for Croatia open 2013 and 4.6 km² was checked and redrawn . Also 4.0 km² of new area was mapped for future project - for now a secret what makes total od 11.6 sq. km! Thanks a lot to our mapmakers who were drawing on sun, rain and even on snow! ON left you can now see new part of Sungerski lug map.

Meanwhile, Thermenland open will take place in Croatia from 14-16 June 2013! Event will be organized close to Slovenian/Hungarian/Croatian border on interesting karst and continentall terrains inculding trail and MTB orienteering. Spa, frendly atmosphere and quality maps are guaranted! You may check event webpage HERE.

Since it has been very strong winter in Croatian mountains our mapping is bit behind schedule... For example LIDAR scaning of Lividraga is planned from last year but there is simply too much snow to make airbone scanning of terrain... We have only old map from 2006 there which was made mainly on blank paper but we want to have new map with laser scanning basemap and since there is still more than 1m of thick snow which will probably not melt before middle of May there is simply not enough time for mapmakers to draw new map.

Instead, we will move stage 1 closer to Delnice - to Malo Selo map. Malo Selo is hard and interesting karst terrain - part of Crni lug map complex. 1st stage of Croatia open 2010 were organized there. Map will be revised in May...

Same situation like on Lividraga is with map Leska - leska is area in NP Risnjak but there is still too much snow and we are not sure that (quality!) course planning will be made on time since map will be made on end of June... Good news is that Robert Miček had time to visit Sungerski lug and draw new parts... Now Sungerski lug can handle two stages withouth running on same parts... Therfore, instead of one, we will have two stages in Sunger!

Map examples: new map for short long and long distance - stage 3 and 4 will be in Sungerski lug!

Since now we have finally re-defined stages we will start with course-planning for rest stages and for 2-3 weeks you might have all courses finished! Stay tuned on Croatia open and on our facebook page!

Several meetings have been made lately in order to both prepare and present Croatia open to local authorities. Probably most interesting was meeting with town of Krk and tourist board of Krk. Ivica made presentation in city hall and both mayor mr. Vasilić and main director of tourist board mrs. Jurina were pleased with presented and we got encouragement to continue developing orienteering sport on island of Krk. In order to do that, we have already started working on that but for now it will stay secret ;).

First entry deadline is behind us! Next important date is 15^th June 2013 when second entry deadline is finished. From now on entry fee will be charged as it stands for second deadline.

Snow is now slowly melting in mountains and soon work on maps for Croatia open 2013 will be done! We hope that you have prepared your spike shoes ;).

Otherwise, plenty of administrative work is behind us but there is still a lot of work to do. Soon we are having meeting in town of Krk where some issues regards second stage will be solved with local autorities.

Also, on our facebook page you may follow route-quiz where we will publish some of old routes from previous editions of Croatia open and we would be glad to see some of your opinion for solving legs.

Last, but not the least on O-gala event held last week in Zagreb Croatia open 2012 received annual award from Croatian orienteering federation as best organized orienteering event in 2012.
